John Rutter - April 22nd 2023
The St Helens Choral Society's April Concert entitled 'I shall sing with the spirit' was the first with Carol Kwater at the helm as Musical Director, alongside her husband Peter who accompanied on the piano and the organ.
From the start right up to the end, the choir kept the audience captivated. It was a concert full of light and shade, which opened with the title song 'I shall sing with the spirit'. Throughout the night the choir sang in total unison, and perfectly clear wording. It was stunning to hear the soprano's hitting the high notes, which filled the room. A particular highlight was The Willow Song - which the choir performed completely unaccompanied, allowing their outstanding singing abilities to shine brightly.
The evening ended with a song that hadn't been disclosed to the audience previously, adding a slight surprise factor. May The Lord Bless You, which the choir sang in such a rousing and breath taking way rounded off the concert in spectacular style.
