Concert Photos from times past
Hitting the high notes with us for 50 years!
Marion Boardman has just completed fifty (yes 50!) full years singing soprano in the St Helens Choral Society. Marion Howard and her then boyfriend joined the choir together, when she was just twenty. The first concert they sang in together was 'Hiawatha's Wedding Feast'. The following year they were married. She's still singing, and they're still happily married, with a son, a daughter and four grandchildren.
Apart from raising a happy family, she's been a mainstay of Reception classes at St Aidan's Primary School in Billinge. "After my second child I went back for six weeks and stayed twenty-four years" she laughed.
Never one to sit idle, she's done more than her share for the community and for St Aidan's Church. And in all those years, she's only missed three concerts, one of them just after the birth of her son, which seems about as good a reason as you can get.
Jack, her husband, moved on to sing in Haydock Male Voice Choir, amongst others, but Marion has stayed true to the Choral Society, acting as its Librarian for 29 years, for which service she was made an Honorary Life Member.
Marion has always regarded her nights' singing as 'her' time , relishing both the music and the personal discipline - and it seems to have done her a world of good. She's certainly been good for the choir.
